The saints endured fierce and inhuman torments: they were bound to horses, dragged over stones, their bodies were lacerated with iron hooks and they were cast into an hot oven. The Lord helped them endure things, that a mere man by his own strength could not endue. Towards the end the martyrs were pierced in head and heart with spears, and thrown into a pit, they were covered over with ground. After enduring such a cruel death, now they live forever in the joy of the Lord (Mt. 25:21).

He lived in asceticism for over 50 years in various places, and received from God a truly abundant gift of wonderworking. He healed all sicknesses and pains, drove out demons, and tamed wild beasts. He especially had power over snakes, could cross over water as on dry land, could be invisible to men when he so desired, and could foretell future events. He was distinguished by overwhelming humility and meekness. His outward appearance was that of a giant-massive and powerful. He took an active part in the destiny of God's Church. He was a great miracle-worker both during his life and after his death.
The widely-used prayer "My hope is the Father; my refuge is the Son; my shelter is the Holy Spirit; O Holy Trinity, glory be to Thee! " is attributed to St Joannicius.

• Martyr PORPHYRIUS 颇尔斐里 the Mime 笑剧演员, of Caesarea (270) patron saint of actors and artists
Ὁ Ἅγιος Πορφύριος ὁ Μῖμος
From a young age he was raised in the theater with the mimes, namely those who acted out every form and movement of people. Once he followed the count of Alexandria to Caesarea, and there he acted out the Holy Baptism of the Christians, where he was baptized by another mime who falsely pretended to be a Bishop. In this way they mocked the mysteries of the Christians. Now after he was baptized, he put on the white garment as is the custom of those who are baptized, and - O the miracle! - he accepted the Christian faith and received grace from Christ. For when he was baptized, Angels appeared before him, who taught him to pray towards the east, and how to seal his forehead and entire body with the honorable Cross. Thus by this miracle, many came to believe in Christ, and they were baptized by a cloud, thus entering the catholic Church. The count ordered Saint Porphyrios to deny his Christian faith, but he refused, and for this reason he was beheaded, and received the crown of martyrdom.
There are many mimes and actors who were martyred for Christ and are commemorated by the Church, and Saint Porphyrios is the first among them. All of them sought to mock the Christian faith, but divine grace proved that the Christian faith cannot be mocked.
