The risen Lord appeared to Cleopas on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-33).
• The Siblings Hieromartyr bishop ZENOBIUS 兹诺维 and his sister Martyress ZENOBIA 兹诺维亚 of Aegea in Cilicia (285) under Emperor Diocletian. Zenobios was seized and brought before the governor. During his interrogations, his sister Zenobia presented herself. Both struck cruelly and thrown into a chaldron of boiling pitch, were preserved by the grace of Christ. Their lives were terminated by the sword

NEW MARTYRS AND CONFESSORS in the 20th century
• Holy Priestmartyr JOHN Kochurov (1871-1917) Missionary in America First Clergy and 1st Hieromartyr of the Russian Revolution of Russia's atheist yoke
He was born in Russia in 1871, and as a young priest was sent to America as a missionary. There he worked zealously (he was instrumental in the building of the Orthodox cathedral in Chicago) until he was called back to Russia just before the October Revolution in 1917. Only six days after the Bolsheviks seized power, he was beaten to death in the street by a gang of Bolshevik sailors in Tsarskoye Selo near St Petersburg. Thus he became the first of countless Priest-Martyrs of Russia's atheist yoke.

• Holy Virgin Martyress ARILDA (Arild or Alkeld) at Kingston-by-Thornbury, Gloucestershire in England who met her death in defence of her chastity
Nun in Gloucestershire, England. Died fighting off a rapist. A church at Oldbury-on-the-Hill is dedicated to her.
• Holy Apostle ARTEMAS 阿尔特玛斯, among the Seventy, Bishop of Lystra in Lycaonia (1st c.) reposed peacefully
• ASTERIUS Metropolitan of Amasea (431)
Studied law and rhetoric in his youth, and practiced law for a while, but gave it up for the priesthood. Bishop of Amasea, Pontus (in Asia Minor) during the persecutions of Julian the Apostate. A noted preacher, 21 of his sermons have survived.

• Confessor GERMANUS of Capua (545) Bishop of Capua and a friend of St Benedict. He went to Constantinople to heal the Acacian schism but met with ill-treatment at the hands of the Acacians. St Benedict saw his soul being carried to heaven

• Holy Apostle JUSTUS (Joseph Barsabbas also known as Jesus) 犹思图, among the Seventy, bishop of Eleutheropolis, hieromartyr (76) a son of Joseph the Betrothed
Together with Matthias, he was one of those selected as a possible replacement for Judas the traitor, but he was not chosen. He suffered for the Gospel as a bishop in Eleutheropolis.

The Hieromartyr Marcian is the same person as Saint Marcellus, Bishop of Sicily, commemorated on February 9.
• Martyr MARCELLUS (298) a Roman centurion in Tangier, Morocco in North Africa. During a festival in honour of the Emperor, he refused to join in the pagan celebrations and declared himself to be Orthodox. The notary who refused to write the official report was also martyred with St Cassian

According to the Roman Martyrology, Saint Maximus was martyred at Apamea in Phrygia under Diocletian. However, it is more likely that he died at Cuma (the ancient Cumae) in Campania, Italy.

Martyred by order of governor Barbarus for refusing to take part in the festival of Jupiter during the persecutions of Diocletian.

Tertius wrote down the Epistle to the Romans for Paul (Romans 16:22), and died a martyr as Bishop of Iconium after the Apostle Sosipater (November 10).
• Hiermartyr THEONESTUS (425) by tradition Bishop of Philippi in Macedonia, driven out by the Arians. He was sent with companions (among whom was St Alban of Mainz) to enlighten Germany. However, in Mainz they were obliged to flee from invading Vandals and on their way Theonestus was martyred in Altino in Italy
