Virgin Consortia Born into the nobility. Miraculously healed the dying daughter of King Clotaire. In reward, the king endowed a convent in an area of modern France, and Consotia fled there to escape a series of marriage proposals and life the religious life. Venerated at Cluny, France.

• Venerable AARON of Aletha, of Brittany, hegumen (552)
Migrated to Cesambre, a small island near Aleth in Armorica, Brittany (in modern France) to live as a hermit; the island was accessible only at low tide, and for centuries was known as Aaron in his honour. His reputation attracted spiritual students, including Saint Malo. The students formed a monastery, and Aaron lived there as a monk, and served as their abbot.

Soldier in the imperial Roman army of Diocletian. Convert, brought to the faith by Saint Amphibalus of Verulam whom he had sheltered. The first martyr in Britain, dying in the persecutions of Diocletian.

Saint Anastasia was the mother of St Sava of Serbia. She was the daughter of the Byzantine Emperor Romanus, and received the name Anna when she was baptized. Later, she married the King of Serbia, Stephen Nemanya. She finished her life as a nun, receiving the name Anastasia.

Brother of the Emperor Vespasian and uncle of Titus and Domitian, whose niece, Flavia Domitilla, he married. In the year 95 he held consular office together with Domitian. The following year Domitian had him beheaded for the Orthodox Faith.

Gwen of Talgarth, Wales, was the daughter of Brychan of Brecknock and the sister of St Cledwyn. She was murdered by the pagan Saxons at Talgarth in 492.

St John was the bishop of Naples who translated the body of Saint Januarius from Puteoli to Naples, "whom blessed Paulinus, bishop of Nola, called to the Heavenly Kingdom" according to the Roman Martyrology.

Friend of Saint Paulinus of Nola. Missionary bishop in Decia (modern Romania and Yugoslavia). Author of several theological works. Credited by many scholars with writing the great hymn, Te Deum.

• PAULINUS (Meropius Pontius Anicius Paulinus) of Nola (354-431) Bishop His writings contain one of the earliest examples of a Christian wedding song.
