• The "NURTURED UP-BRINGING" ("Education" or "The Teacher") Icon of the Mother of God 1501)
In the Icon called "Nurturing", the Mother of God is depicted with her eternal Child sitting on her left arm. Christ’s right hand is extended upward to the face of the All-Pure Virgin. Before 1917, the holy image was located in the Kazan Cathedral on Red Square, but it was lost after the destruction of that church in 1936. The church was rebuilt in 1993, and it houses a copy of the Nurturing Icon. At that place there is a list of wonderworking icons glorified throughout Russia for their miracles. The title of the Icon speaks for itself. Parents pray for their children in her presence, asking the Most Holy Theotokos to take them under her protection, to send them understanding, and to fill their hearts with wisdom.

On 5 March 1463, there were opened at Yaroslavl’ the relics of holy Prince Theodore and his sons, David and Konstantin. The chronicler, an eye-witness to the event, recorded under the year: "At the city of Yaroslavl’ in the monastery of the Holy Saviour they did bring up three great princes, prince Feodor Rostislavich and his sons David and Konstantin, and above the ground they did lay them. Great-prince Feodor was a man of great stature, and of his sons David and Konstantin they did lay them alongside, and their stature was less than his. They did lay within a single grave". This feature of the physical appearance of the holy prince so struck the senses of the eye-witnesses and those present at the time of the uncovering of the relics, that an account of this was entered into the Prologue's Saints-lives concerning Saint Theodore, and also into the text of the Iconographic Originals.

He was a man of compunctionate prayer, and possessesed the gift of tears which purify the soul. He was a true pastor to his flock protecting them from spiritual wolves, and guiding them on the path to salvation. He has left behind many soul-profiting writings which proclaim the truth of Christ to modern man. In them he exhorts people to love God, and to live a life of virtue and holiness. May we also be found worthy of the Kingdom of Heaven through the prayers of Saint Nikolai, and by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, to Whom be glory forever. Amen.

On March 17th 1996, St Luke's remains were disinterred, with an estimated 40 000 people taking part. It is said that an indescribable aroma arouse from his relics, while his heart was discovered incorrupt, a testament to the great love he bore towards Christ and his fellow men. Three days later on March 20th 1996, his relics were transferred to the Church of the Holy Trinity.
She was born in Ireland, on the borders of Leinster and Ulster, and consecrated herself to God in a religious state under the direction of St Bridget, who built for her a separate oratory, and afterwards a monastery, in a place since called the Field of Breaca. She afterwards passed into Cornwall in company with Abbot Sinnin, a disciple of St Patrick, Maruan, a monk, Germoch, or Gemoch, King Elwen, Crewenna, and Helen. Saint Breaca landed at Revyer, otherwise called Theodore's castle, situated on the eastern bank of the river Hayle, long since, as it seems, swallowed up by the sands on the coast of the northern sea of Cornwall. Tewder, a Welchman, slew part of this holy company. St Breaca proceeded to Pencair, a hill in Pembro parish, now commonly called St Banka. She afterwards built two churches, one at Trenewith, the other at Talmeneth, two mansion places in the parish of Pembro, as is related in the life of St Elwin.

Conon was born in Nazareth. He was kind and innocent and in all things found favor with God. During the reign of Decius, Conon was persecuted, suffered and martyred for Christ. Throughout, he remained strong in the Faith. He sharply rebuked and criticized the pagan judges because of their stupidity. With nails driven into his feet and tied to the prince's chariot, this virtuous and innocent saint was dragged until he was completely exhausted and fell. It was then that he prayed for the last time and gave up his soul to God in the year 251 A.D.

If we want to do something but cannot, then before God, Who knows our hearts, it is as if we have done it. This is true whether the intended action is good or bad. - Saint Mark
Fifth century monk. May have been a disciple of Saint John Chrysostom, and friend of Saint Nilus the Ascetic, but it's questionable. Wrote over 200 texts on spiritual law, baptism, repentance, grace and holy works, and other topics. May have been the abbot at Ancyra, but later became a desert hermit. Opposed the Messalian heresy; it taught that each person has a personal demon that even baptism cannot conquer. Mark wrote against the Nestorians. Said to have known the Scriptures by heart. Legend says he once cured a hyena that had been born blind; not sure why.

In 1798 Parthenios arrived at the island of Patmos, accompanied by several other monks, and the Meadow of Koutroulis, named after the original proprietor and located on the north side of the island to the south of Cape Sardella, was ceded to him by its owners on the condition that he pay them 25 piastres a year. With builders from Samos he established a small monastery known as the Meadow of Monks. Thus he became the first proprietor of the dependency and for that reason it is called the Kathisma of Parthenios. Needing further resources to complete construction of the monastery, Parthenios went to Thrace to raise the funds. In Thrace he worked as a priest and one day he advised a young Christian woman how to flee a relationship she had with a Muslim Turk. When this Muslim learned of it, he became enraged and killed Parthenios on the 5th of March in 1805.
