The second of the seven Ecumenical Councils dealt with the following:
The heresies of Macedonianism and Apollinarianism, off-shoots of the Arian heresy
Expanding and adapting the Nicene Creed, in particular, developing the teaching upon the Holy Spirit
Altering the provisions of the Canon VI of the First Council in Nicea
Regarding the teaching of the Holy Spirit, the Council affirmed him to be God "even as the Father and Son are God: who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and together glorified." After about 381, Arianism ceased to be a relevant issue, save for a few remote parts of the empire. The controversial aspect of this Council was Canon III, which gave Constantinople second place in honor among the sees. They called it the New Rome. Rome and Alexandria both resented this, and feared that a power play might come into effect by Constantinople. In fact, Rome ignored this canon entirely until AD 1215, after the Great Schism, and even then there were political reasons for Rome's 'granting' of Constantinople second place in honor. Alexandria, formally second in honor among the sees, was first in honor in the Eastern sees. With the third canon, it became third in honor among the sees, and second in honor in the Eastern sees. Alexandria played a part in this sharp conflict between it and Constantinople, and while there was political maneuvering on both sides that saw the deposition of two bishops of Constantinople, there was more at stake as we approach the Third Council.

When his city was being approached by the Ostrogoth army of King Totila, Fulgencio went out to meet him, first to plead for his city, then to bribe him into passing by. The Ostrogoths seized him and while Totila considered his next move, they drew a circle in the dirt, put the bishop in it and told the guards to kill him if he left it. Fulgencio began to suffer from being left in the sun, and prayed for relief; the sky clouded up and it rained heavily – except in the circle where Fulgencio was imprisoned.

• Princess HELEN (Aileen, Elena, Eibhilin, Eileen, Elene, Elinor, Eleanor, Eleanora, Alene or Elen Luyddog) of Carnarvon (Caernarvon or Caernarfon) a late 4th-century founder of churches in Wales (383-388) wife of Emperor Magnus Clemens Maximus
Ἡ Ἁγία Ἑλένη ἡ Πριγκίπισσα
She is remembered for having Macsen build roads across her country so that the soldiers could more easily defend it from attackers, thus earning her the name Elen Luyddog (Elen of the Hosts). She is said to have ordered the making of Sarn Helen, the great Roman road running from Caernarfon to south Wales via Dolgellau, Pennal and Bremia (Llanddewi Brefi). Though this road bears her name it is considerably older than Elen's accepted time period. Many other Roman roads in Wales bear her name (e.g. Llwybr Elen) and she is thus acknowledged as the patron saint of British roadbuilders and the protectress of travellers. The Welsh translation of Legion is Leng, therefore the Roman road called Sarn Elen could also be a mutation of Sarn y leng (The Legions Road).

• VM JULIA of Carthage, at Corsica, Pat. of Corsica and Leghorn, who was crucified (440)
Ἡ Ἁγία Ἰουλία ἡ Μάρτυς
Saint Julia was a noble virgin of Carthage, who, when the city was taken by Genseric in 439, was sold for a slave to a pagan merchant of Syria. In the most mortifying employments of her station, by cheerfulness and patience she found a happiness and comfort which the world could not give. Whenever she was not employed in household affairs, her time was devoted to prayer and reading books of piety. Her master, who was charmed with her fidelity and other virtues, thought proper to take her with him on one of his voyages to Gaul. When he reached the northern part of Corsica, he cast anchor and went ashore to join the pagans of the place in an idolatrous festival. Julia was left at some distance, because she would not be defiled by the superstitious ceremonies, which she openly spurned. The governor of the island, Felix, a bigoted pagan, asked who this woman was who dared to insult the gods. The merchant informed him that she was a Christian, and that all his authority over her was too weak to prevail upon her to renounce her religion; nonetheless, he found her so diligent and faithful he could not part with her. The governor offered him four of his best slaves in exchange for her. But the merchant replied, No; all you are worth will not purchase her; for I would lose the most valuable thing I have in the world rather than be deprived of her. Nonetheless Felix, while the inebriated merchant was asleep, attempted to compel her to sacrifice to his gods. He offered to procure her liberty if she would comply. The Saint made answer that she was as free as she desired to be, as long as she was allowed to serve Jesus Christ. The pagan, offended by her undaunted and resolute air, in a transport of rage caused her to be struck on the face, and the hair of her head to be torn off. Finally he ordered her to be hanged on a cross until she expired. Certain monks from the isle of Gorgon transported her relics there, but in 763 the king of Lombardy transferred them to Brescia, where her memory is celebrated with great devotion.
• Venerabless KALI the Philanthropist, of Asia Minor (14th c.)
Ἡ Ὁσία Καλή
She was rich and disposed of her property to philanthropic causes. She was not likely a nun in a monastery, since nowhere in her Service does it indicate that she was, but she did live like a monastic. Rather, she housed the homeless and the needy in her home, because she was dedicated to ministering to the suffering of those less fortunate. Kali was a virgin who lived wisely with asceticism, fasting and unceasing prayer. Her characteristic virtue was her philanthropy. Her chief motive was her desire to keep the commandments of Christ, and to imitate divine mercy and love for mankind. In her Service many miracles are also attributed to her. At one time she made bread to distribute to the poor, and God made it so that as the bread was distributed it never diminished in order for all to be fed. Even after death are miracles attributed to Saint Kali. So many are her miracles, that the hymnographer refers it to being a "sea of miracles" and he calls her "miracle-gusher". She is known to have healed both soul and body, but especially painful and chronic diseases, rheumatism, arthritis, paralysis and deformities of the joints of body parts.
