Martyrs of Tyre (302-310) under Veturius a Roman general, in the reign of Diocletian
Several Christians of Egypt, whereof some had settled in Palestine, others at Tyre, gave astonishing proofs of their patience and constancy in the faith. After innumerable blows, which they cheerfully underwent, they were exposed to wild beasts, such as leopards, wild bears, boars, and bulls.

Sadoth, as he is called by the Greeks and Latins, is named in the original Persian language, Schiadustes, which signifies "friend of the king", from schiah, king, and dust, friend.

These venerable fathers of the Monastery of the Transfiguration at Valaam on Lake Ladoga were massacred by a party of converts to Lutheranism who besieged the monastery and attempted to make the brethren renounce the Orthodox Faith.

• Venerable AGATHO 阿伽佗 the Wonderworker of Kiev Caves, from the Pechersk Lavra (Monastery of the Caves) in Kiev (1301) Ukraine. The Relics are kept at St Theodosy Far Caves of the Lavra
Ὁ Ὅσιος Ἀγάθων ὁ Θαυματουργός
The Monk Agathon of Pechersk was a great fast-keeper, and he healed the sick by a laying-on of his hands upon them, he likewise possessed a gift of prophecy and foretold the time of his own death. His memory is celebrated also with the Assembly of the Monks of the Farther Caves on 28 August.

BOLCAN (Olcan) Bishop of Derken (Derkan) in Ireland (480)
Bolcan was baptized by Saint Patrick, who sent him to study in Gaul. Patrick later consecrated him bishop of Derkan in northern Ireland. Bolcan's school there was one of the best equipped in the island. Another Saint Bolcan (Olcan of Kilmoyle) is venerated in the diocese of Elphin.

COLGAN Abbot of Lusk, County Dublin (7th c.)
COLGAN (also known as Colchu, Colgu) the Wise and the Chief Scribe of the Irish (796) Abbot of Clonmacnoise in Offaly in Ireland
He was a friend and teacher of the Blessed Alcuin. Colgan is noted for the influence he exerted on the imperial schools in France, through his students.

DIONYSIUS presbiter of Rome (268)
• Hieromartyr ELEUTHERIUS 埃莱弗特里 bishop in Byzantium (310) • Sainted ELEUTHERIUS 埃莱弗特里 Bishop of Tournai in Belgium (532)
Born in Tournai in Belgium, he became bishop there in 486 and enlightened the pagan Franks who had settled nearby. He died from wounds inflicted by Arian heretics.
EUCHERIUS 艾弗赫里 bishop of Orleans (743)
Born in Orleans in France, he became a monk at Jumièges near Rouen in about 714. In 721 he became Bishop of Orleans, opposing the theft of church lands by Charles Martel. For this he was exiled to Cologne in Germany in 737. Here he became very popular and so was sent to Liège in Belgium. He spent the rest of his life at the monastery of St Trond near Maastricht in Holland.

Ὁ Ἅγιος Λέων ὁ Θαυματουργός Ἐπίσκοπος Κατάνης
Saint Leo is known as "il Maraviglioso" ('the Wonderworker) in Sicily, where he was bishop in Catania and highly esteemed for his learning.

Ἡ Ὁσία Μιλδρέδη ἐκ Βρετανίας
St Mildred died of a lingering painful illness, towards the close of the seventh century. Great monastery Menstrey was often plundered by the Danes, and the nuns and clerks murdered, chiefly in the years 980 and 1011. After the last of these burnings, here were no more nuns but only a few secular priests. In 1033, the remains of St Mildred were translated to the monastery of Austin's at Canterbury, and venerated above all the relics of that holy place, says Malmesbury, who testifies frequent miracles to have been wrought by them: Thorn and others confirm the same. Two churches in London bear her name.

According to legend, in the fourth century, the widow Paula was pursued into a church by an enamored youth and threatened with the prospect of rape, where she prayed for a miracle to save her virtue. God supposedly responded so that "beard . . . on her chin, and moustaches on her lip after her embracing the crucifix in an oratory to which she fled", thus driving away the harasser in disgust. She is considered the Patroness Saint of widows.
