• The Weeping "TIKHVIN" 提赫文 Icon of Panagia DAKRIROOUSSA in the Prophet Elias Skete on Mt Athos (1877)
Panagia Dakrirooussa, otherwise known as the the Weeping Tikhvin Icon, is to be found at the Prophet Elias Skete at Mount Athos. On February 17, 1877 (Thursday of the Second Week of Lent) seven monks remained in the church after the Hours had been read. They were astonished to see tears flowing from the right eye of the icon, and collecting on the frame. Then a single large tear came from the left eye. The monks wiped the tears from the icon's face, then left the church and locked the doors behind them. Three hours later, they returned for Vespers and saw traces of tears on the icon, and a single tear in the left eye. Again they wiped the tears from the icon, but they did not reappear. Regarding this manifestation of tears as a sign of mercy from the Mother of God, the monks established an annual commemoration of the icon on February 17.

• Papa NICHOLAS 尼科拉 Planas, priest in Athens (1851-1932)
His focus for over 50 years was to serve daily the Divine Liturgy, vigils, and other services. He never missed a Liturgy and spent most of his time in the very small church of Church of St John the Hunter in Athens, Greece. The parish initially contained only eight families. He never refused to commemorate and pray for anyone when he served, and he carried in his pockets slips of paper containing thousands of names whom he would pray for during the proskomedia and the Liturgy. Numerous stories are told of his being lifted in prayer and of the acolytes seing him raised off the ground in front of the altar during the Liturgy. While he would begin Liturgy at eight in the morning, he typically would not finish until two or three in the afternoon. When he was not able to serve at the church of St John, he would always serve elsewhere. He was famously absent-minded and was also well known for giving to the poor anything that anyone might give him. He was not an educated man but was considered immensely enlightened, an example of great holiness and humility.

Saint Joseph was a monk of Dionysiou Monastery on Mt. Athos, where he shone forth with the virtues of monastic life. He was an iconographer, and he painted the icon of the holy Archangels on the iconostasis of Dionysiou's main church. In obedience to the instructions of Igumen Stephen, Saint Joseph traveled to Constantinople with Eudocimus, who had apostasized from Orthodoxy to become a Moslem. Eudocimus repented, and wished to wipe out his sin through martyrdom. When faced with torture and death, however, the unfortunate Eudocimus denied Christ again, blaming Joseph for turning him from Islam. Saint Joseph was arrested and threatened with death. In spite of many tortures, he refused to convert to Islam. This holy martyr of Christ was hanged on February 17, 1819, and so he obtained an incorruptible crown of glory.

• Uncovering (867-869) of the relics of Martyr MENAS 弥纳 Callicelados (the Melodius) 麦洛迪 of Alexandria (313)
Εὕρεσις Τιμίων Λειψάνων Ἁγίου Μηνᾶ τοῦ Καλλικέλαδος
During the time of the Constantinople emperor Basilios the Macedonian (867-886), by command of the saint himself who had appeared in a dream to a certain pious man, – his relics were discovered by the military commander Marcian.
The relics of the holy Martyrs were cast into the sea in an iron chest. Instead of the iron chest sinking to the floor of the sea, it floated to the area of Byzantium. When the iron chest arrived, an angel appeared to the Bishop and told him to welcome the relics of the holy Martyrs Menas and Hermogenes at the beach known as Acropolis, which had come from Alexandria. He summoned all the Christians he could at that hour, which was midnight, and they went to the seashore. There they beheld a great light on the open sea, like a column going up to heaven. Beside the light were two radiant men who reverently stood on either side, approaching the harbor. Though initially the Christians thought it was a galley, upon closer inspection they saw it was an iron chest moving fast on the sea above the water. When the chest arrived, the two angels instructed the Bishop how to preserve the chest until the death of Emperor Maximinus. The Christians venerated the relics and placed them in a certain church, as instructed by the angels. When Maximinus died, the Bishop interred the relics beneath the ground of the wall of Acropolis, so that the Saints may be the guardians of the city. Almost five hundred years later, during the reign of Emperor Basil I (867-886), Saint Menas appeared one night to a certain man named Philommatis, who was a soldier in the military corps of the Ikanaton (the palace guards), and he showed him the location of his sacred relics in the section of the shore known as Acropolis, pointing to it with his finger. The pious and faithful Philommatis rose up and revealed in detail his vision to his friend Markianos, who was the commander of the regiment of the Noumera, and he in turn told the emperor that at the seashore of Nicomedia, near the beach of Acropolis, the sacred relics of the Saint were hidden under the earth. He sent soldiers to that place, where they found an iron coffin which contained the sacred relics. A plaque was attached to the coffin, which indicated that it contained the relics of the Saint, as well as the location where they should be placed. It should be noted that the iron chest only contained the relics of Saint Menas. It is assumed Saint Hermogenes' relics were placed elsewhere. The sacred relics were transferred to Constantinople.

The Holy Martyr Theodore the Byzantine was a native of the settlement Neokhoreia near Constantinople. In childhood they seduced him into Mahometanism. For his return to the Christian faith he was hung by the Turks in the city of Mytilene in 1795.
THE PRAYER OF ST THEODORE: Lord Jesus Christ, the physician of my miserable soul, do not turn from me the sinner in disgust, but strengthen my weak and hardened heart, and warm it in its love for Your martyrdom. I denied You, my Maker and Benefactor, without being forced by anyone and became a servant of the vile devil and a plaything of demons, and found myself under their authority and subject to their will. Now aided by Your grace and unsurpassable forbearance, which has helped me to flee their traps, help me, who am a miserable and pitiful creature, unworthy of the Orthodox Christian calling, to confess You before rulers and tyrants. Yes, my Lord, yes Only-Begotten Son of God. Do not turn in disgust from your servant, but accept me in the choir of your martyrs, and find me worthy to gain their forgiveness. Amen.

• Commemoration of the dedication of the Great Church 大教堂 in Constantinople
The church was dedicated to the Wisdom of God, the Logos, the second person of the Trinity, its patronal feast taking place on 25 December, the commemoration of the birth of the incarnation of the Logos in Christ. Although sometimes referred to as Sancta Sophia (as though it were named after Sophia the Martyr), sophia being the phonetic spelling in Latin of the Greek word for wisdom, its full name in Greek is Ναός της Αγίας του Θεού Σοφίας, Naos tēs Hagias tou Theou Sophias, "Shrine of the Holy Wisdom of God".
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
愿上帝怜恤我罪人
O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God,
for the sake of the prayers
of Thy most pure Mother,
our holy and God-bearing fathers and all the saints, have mercy on us.
Amen.

Blessed be God.
