• Hieromartyr THEOGENES bishop of Hippona (Hippo Regius) in Africa suffered with 36 of his flock (258) under Valerian probably at Laodicea in Phrygia
• Hieromartyr presbiter ANANIAS 阿纳尼雅, Martyr PETER 彼得 the Prison Guard, and 7 soldiers (295) in Phoenicia; arrested for confessing Christ and for his refusal to worship idols, Peter and seven other soldiers who came to believe in Christ, were stationed to guard Ananias and witnessed his suffering. They were drowned in the sea after lengthy torture

Group case of Archbishop Alexander Trapitsyn, Samara, 1938. Archbishop Alexander Trapitsyn, priests John Suldin, John Smirnov, Alexander Organov, Trofim Myachin, Alexander Ivanov were shot on January 14, 1938. Due to the mass executions, the remaining priests sentenced to be shot were taken to the next group: Priests Vasily Vitevsky, Vyacheslav Infantov and Jacob Alferov were shot on February 8, 1938. All those who were shot were buried in a common grave.

St Davit the Restorer was buried at the entrance to Gelati Monastery. His final wish was carved in the stone of his grave: This is My rest for ever and ever; here I will dwell, for I have chosen her (Ps. 131:15).

• Venerable Father GERMANOS the Spirit-bearer, of Sagmata in Boeotia (1480-1540) served as abbot of the Holy Monastery during the bitter years of Turkish occupation. He was the spiritual father of St Seraphim
St Seraphim of Domvou (1520-1602) – his family was from the town of Zeli. In his youth he came to Sagmata, and lived there as a monk for 10 years. For greater asceticism, he fled to the area of Domvou Elikonos, and built his famous Holy Monastery. His memory is celebrated on May 6th.

He compiled three odes and stikhera of the Lenten Triodion, a canon of repentance for the Sunday of Prodigal Son and other church-song. He wrote several sermons for feastdays, of which the best known is the Sermon on the Exaltation of the Venerable Cross of the Lord.

A Roman lady of noble birth, she married a patrician and had five children, among them St Eustochium and St Blaesilla. Left a widow when she was 32, she presided for twenty years over the sisterhood she had founded in Bethlehem. She also established a guest house for pilgrims there.

Ἀνακομιδὴ Τιμίων Λειψάνων Ὁσίου Θεοδώρου τοῦ Στουδίτου
The Transfer of the Relics of Saint Theodore, Igumen of the Studion Monastery, from Akritian Cherson to Constantinople occurred in the year 845.
Saint Theodore was exiled in 815 for refusing to acquiesce in a revival of Iconoclasm during the reign of Emperor Leo V (813-820). He was freed and recalled to Constantinople in 821 after Michael II (820-829) became emperor, but he was unable to reach an accommodation with the new ruler to call a synod against Iconoclasm. Instead, it seems he voluntarily went again into exile in 823, first to the Monastery of Saint Tryphon near Cape Akritas southeast of the city, and later to Prinkipo in the Princes' Islands. He died there November 11, 826. It seems that when the last iconoclast Emperor Theophilos (829-842) died, and following the Triumph of Orthodoxy (843), Naukratios, the successor of Theodore, was able to return to Stoudios Monastery. Shortly thereafter, the relics of Theodore and his brother Joseph of Thessaloniki were translated from Prinkipo to Stoudios on January 26, 844, and laid to rest in the same tomb as his uncle and spiritual father, Saint Plato. This was done after Naukratios of Stoudios and Athanasios of Sakkudion received permission from the Ecumenical Patriarch Methodios and Empress Theodora. Upon the arrival of the relics of the Saints to Constantinople, a multitude of monks, clerics and laymen cheered for joy. And after they were carried to Stoudios Monastery, Patriarch Methodios and other dignitaries visited, though the empress was not able to come but did send gifts. The Patriarch himself interred the relics in their tomb. Saint Theodore's body was preserved whole and incorrupt to such a point, that even his skin was observed to not have changed in the eighteen years since his death.

• Commemoration of the Great Earthquake at Constantinople (447-448), during the reign of Emperor Theodosius II (408-450)
Μνήμη Μεγάλου Σεισμοῦ
During the final years of the reign of Emperor Theodosius II (408-450), on a Sunday, at the second hour, there occurred such a great earthquake in Constantinople, that it destroyed the city walls, together with many homes and neighborhoods of the city. Extensive damage was especially suffered from the port of Troas to the copper Tetrapylon. Aftershocks rumbled throughout the city for three months. The emperor than called for a procession to be formed with all the people participating.
Theodosius then prayed to God with tears in his eyes, saying: Redeem us, O Lord, and grant forgiveness of our sins. In You righteous judgment and indignation these punishments have justly come upon us, since our sins have shaken and sundered the earth. But do forgive us that we may glorify You, our only good God and the lover of mankind.
