The former was bound with chains in Valerian's persecution under the Prefect Probus, tortured, her breasts cut off, her nails torn out, her teeth broken, her hands and feet cut off, and being beheaded, she passed to her Bridegroom; Cyril, who offered her water when she begged for it, received martydom as his reward.

Ἡ Ὁσία Ἄννα
Anne born at Constantinople; died 820. Like many a well-born maiden, Saint Anne was married against her will. After the death of her husband, she donned masculine attire and assumed the name Euphemianus in order to become a monk at an abbey on Mount Olympus. Here she made rapid progress in virtue, and was asked to take charge of an abbey built by the Patriarch of Constantinople. She declined, and died instead in a small, out-of-the-way monastery. Anne is venerated by the Greeks.

• Venerable ABRAMIUS 阿弗拉弥 the Recluse of the Kiev Caves, from the Pechersk Lavra (Monastery of the Caves) in Kiev (14th c.) Ukraine. The Relics are kept at St Antony Near Caves of the Lavra
• Righteous ACHAHILDIS (Achatia, Atzia, Reinilda of Luxemburg) of Wendelstein, Church founderess (970)
Born to the nobility, the sister of Saint Cunegundes. Married to Thietmar and mother of quintuplets; she and her husband, both of whom were drawn to religious life, then took vows of celibacy. Noted for her charity to the poor, and as a miracle worker. Founded a parish church in Wendelstein, Germany. Once when she discovered that a servant had killed and stolen some geese, she forgave the servant and brought the geese back to life - including the one that had been cooked.

St Anastasia, sometimes called the Roman, is not distinct from St Anastasia, who is called the "Pharmacolytria", the Healer, commemorated on December 22.

• BOND (Baldus) (7th c.) born in Spain, he became a hermit in Sens in France
• Bishop COLMAN of Kilmacduagh (632) a hermit in Arranmore and Burren in Co. Clare in Ireland. He then founded the monastery of Kilmacduagh, i.e. the church of the son of Duac, where he was abbot
Son of a chieftain named Duagh. Hermit in Arranmore where he built two churches. His reputation for holiness attracted too much attention, so he retreated to the woods of Burren in 592 to live in isolation. In 610, on land donated by King Guaire of Connacht, he founded a monastery which became the center of the diocese of Kilmacduagh. He reluctantly served as the house's first abbot, the diocese's first bishop.

• DODONE (Dodo, Dodón) of Wallers-en-Fagne (750) Benedictine monk at Lobbes Abbey. Spiritual student of St Ursmar of Lobbes in Belgium. Abbot of the monastery of Wallers-en-Fagne, Cambrai, Neustria (in modern France). Late in life he retired to live as a hermit in the area of the moden town of Moustiers-en-Fagne, France

About 600, Saint Gregory the Great directed that the relics of Donatus, which had been brought to Corfu by a refugee from Asia Minor, should be enshrined in one of the churches of the island of Corfu.

• HONORATUS of Vercelli (330-415) Spiritual student of St Eusebius who he accompanied into exile at Scythopolis in 335, and on his travels through Cappadocia, Egypt, and Illyricum. Bishop in 396. Gave the sacrament of the Annointing of the Sick to St Ambrose on his deathbed

One year on Paskha-eve the deacons were unprovided with oil for the lamps in the church, necessary at the solemn divine office that day. Narcissus ordered those who had care of the lamps to bring him some water from the neighbouring wells. This being done, he pronounced a devout prayer over the water; then bade them pour it into the lamps; which they did, and it was immediately converted into oil, to the great surprise of the faithful.

Ὁ Ἅγιος Τιμόθεος ὁ Ἐσφιγμενίτης ὁ νέος Ὁσιομάρτυρας
Having reconciled with his wife, they went back to their village and ostensibly lived as Muslims, but secretly they were Orthodox Christians. They then arranged with some pious friends to have their daughters adopted by them, and husband and wife both vowed to enter the monastic life. They first went to the city of Ainos, and from there they went to Kydonies, where his wife entered a convent. Triantaphyllos went on to Mount Athos and entered Great Lavra Monastery, where he labored as a gardener. When he became a monk in this monastery, he received the name Timothy. After six years of labors and struggles to repent and obtain the virtues, he heard of the martyrdom of Saint Agathangelos of Esphigmenou (Apr. 19), so inspired by his example he moved to Esphigmenou Monastery, where he received the great schema and began to prepare for his own martyrdom.
