• Icon of the Mother of God OF THE AKATHIST (1195) of iconostasis of the Hilandar monastery’s katholikon
It is known as the "Akathist" Icon because, during a fire at the katholikon in 1837 an Akathist was being read before the icon, and it remained unharmed, to the joy of the monks.
This icon should not be confused with the Zographou Icon “Of the Akathist” (October 10).

The Nursing Madonna, Virgo Lactans, or Madonna Lactans, is an iconography of the Madonna and Child in which the Virgin Mary is shown breastfeeding the infant Jesus. The icon was later named Typikonissa (Paterica), since the Rule (Typikon) of Saint Sava was preserved there. Saint Ephraim the Syrian says (in the Hymns on the Nativity of Christ): "From the Virgin womb came forth a Newborn, and He was fed by milk, and grew among children — the Son of the Lord of all. The holy Virgin Mother gave milk to Christ, and as a man He was nourished by her milk. As the Lord was nourished by the milk of Mary, life was poured out to the whole world."
Especially venerated by many Kozaks who retired to the Skete of St Elias.
• Icon of the Mother of God the "POPADIKI" (Priestly , "of the Priest") (1628) of Hilandar monastery
A certain heretical priest, having declared himself Orthodox, acted at the Hilandar monastery with evil purpose, but he was punished. During the procession for the blessing of water he took this icon but stumbled, fell into the sea and drowned. Since that time the cross procession is always done with this icon, and invariably a priest carries it, so it was called “Priestly” by the Serbs.

Brought before the Emperor for Christ's faith, she entered a pagan temple with him and by her prayers overturned all the idols which were found there. She was cruelly struck on the forehead, her eyes were torn out with hooks, she was tied to a stake and the skin of her head was flayed. They cut off her hair, thinking, according to their pagan reasoning, that some sorcery or some magical power was concealed in her hair. Finally, after having been exposed in vain to fire and beasts, she was beheaded.

The Holy Monastery of Abba Theodosios the Cenobiarch is located east of Bethlehem, at the entrance to the desert on the ancient central road, which leads from the desert of Jordan to the Dead Sea, on a high plateau. One could see Bethlehem from the Holy Monastery, as well as Jerusalem, the Mount of Olives, the Jordan River, the Dead Sea and Sarantario Mountain.

It is a natural cave, with some points carved, and centuries ago was used first as a church and later as a cemetery.

• St Dwynwen's Day - Diwrnod Santes Dwynwen
Saint Dwynwen (5th c.), sometimes known as Dwyn or Donwen, is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, which makes her the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine.. She is celebrated throughout Wales on 25 January.
Dwynwen lived during the 5th century and legend has it that she was one of the prettiest of Brychan Brycheiniog’s 24 daughters. Dwynwen fell in love with a prince called Maelon Dafodrill, but unfortunately her father had already arranged that she should marry someone else. Dwynwen was so upset that she could not marry Maelon that she begged God to make her forget him. After falling asleep, Dwynwen was visited by an angel, who appeared carrying a sweet potion designed to erase all memory of Maelon and turn him into a block of ice. God then gave three wishes to Dwynwen. Her first wish was that Maelon be thawed; her second that God meet the hopes and dreams of true lovers; and third, that she should never marry. All three were fulfilled, and as a mark of her thanks, Dwynwen devoted herself to God’s service for the rest of her life. She founded a convent on Llanddwyn, off the west coast of Anglesey, where a well named after her became a place of pilgrimage after her death in 465 AD. Visitors to the well believed that the sacred fish or eels that lived in the well could foretell whether or not their relationship would be happy and whether love and happiness would be theirs. Remains of Dwynwen’s church can still be seen today. The popularity and celebration of St Dwynwen’s Day has increased considerably in recent years. So why wait until St Valentine’s Day to make your romantic feelings known, when you can wish your loved one ‘dwi’n dy garu di ‘ (I love you) three weeks earlier?

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God,
for the sake of the prayers
of Thy most pure Mother,
our holy and God-bearing fathers and all the saints, have mercy on us.
Amen.

Blessed be God.
