January 25 / January 12 2018 (7526) Afterfeast of the Theophany
• The Feast of GALAKTOTROPHOUSA (The Milk-Feeder) 哺乳者 Icon of Our Lady Nursing The Christ Child (499) of Hilandar on Mount Athos, on the right side of the iconostasis in the church of Saint Sava at the kellion of Karyes; originally located at the Lavra of Saint Sava the Sanctified near Jerusalem
Γαλακτοτροφούσα
Σύναξις Ὑπεραγίας Θεοτόκου τῆς Γαλακτοτροφούσης
The Nursing Madonna, Virgo Lactans, or Madonna Lactans, is an iconography of the Madonna and Child in which the Virgin Mary is shown breastfeeding the infant Jesus. The icon was later named Typikonissa (Paterica), since the Rule (Typikon) of Saint Sava was preserved there. Saint Ephraim the Syrian says (in the Hymns on the Nativity of Christ): "From the Virgin womb came forth a Newborn, and He was fed by milk, and grew among children — the Son of the Lord of all. The holy Virgin Mother gave milk to Christ, and as a man He was nourished by her milk. As the Lord was nourished by the milk of Mary, life was poured out to the whole world."
Icon of the Mother of God OF THE AKATHIST (1195) of iconostasis of the Hilandar monastery’s katholikon
Σύναξις Ὑπεραγίας Θεοτόκου τοῦ Ἀκαθίστου
It is known as the "Akathist" Icon because, during a fire at the katholikon in 1837 an Akathist was being read before the icon, and it remained unharmed, to the joy of the monks.
This icon should not be confused with the Zographou Icon “Of the Akathist” (October 10).
Icon of the Mother of God the "POPADIKI" (Priestly , "of the Priest") (1628) of Hilandar monastery
A certain heretical priest, having declared himself Orthodox, acted at the Hilandar monastery with evil purpose, but he was punished. During the procession for the blessing of water he took this icon but stumbled, fell into the sea and drowned. Since that time the cross procession is always done with this icon, and invariably a priest carries it, so it was called “Priestly” by the Serbs.

• The Holy Monastery of Abba Theodosios the Cenobiarch is located east of Bethlehem, at the entrance to the desert on the ancient central road, which leads from the desert of Jordan to the Dead Sea, on a high plateau. One could see Bethlehem from the Holy Monastery, as well as Jerusalem, the Mount of Olives, the Jordan River, the Dead Sea and Sarantario Mountain.
This Holy Monastery is built over the Cave of the Magi, which is of great interest, because according to tradition, the Three Magi spent the night there on their return from Bethlehem. It is a natural cave, with some points carved, and centuries ago was used first as a church and later as a cemetery.
Within the marble tombs along the walls of the cave are buried the founder of the Monastery St THEODOSIOS, the Patriarch of Jerusalem St SOPHRONIOS who was a monk there, St EULOGIA the mother of St Theodosios, St KOPRES, St SOPHIA the mother of St Savvas the Sanctified, St THEODOTI the mother of the Holy Unmercenaries, St EUBOULA the mother of St Panteleimon, St MARIA the mother of Sts Arcadius and John and husband of St Xenophontos, St JOHN Moschos who was a monk there and was the renowned author of the Leimanarion, together with other important figures of monasticism in Palestine. All in all the cave contains 35 tombs of Saints.
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
愿上帝怜恤我罪人
O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God,
for the sake of the prayers
of Thy most pure Mother,
our holy and God-bearing fathers and all the saints, have mercy on us.
Amen.

Blessed be God.
